JACK

Well it finally happened.
We KILLED OUR FIRST CHICKEN.
We have 3 maybe 4 roosters and it was getting to noisy. Jack is what we called him was being mean to the other chickens he would pull out thier feathers. The other chickens would not come out of the hen house. Plus he crowed all day long. We were going NUTS. So this morning was "D" Day. It was time for him to go. Our Bishop who knows about killing chickens came over and walked us thru it. It was better doing it in person. (Jason and I were watching lots of You tube videos to learn how. Some not so good.) So our bishop came over and it was nice we got to know the spiritual side of it. The kids wanted to watch so bad I tried to keep them in the house as long as I could but. Sydney kept sticking her head out side and saying is Jack dead yet. Can I see. I need to make sure that he is dead. She was wanting to be a part of it but I didn't think that she was ready. But she was so curious. So I let her come out once we skinned it. We thought that we would skin this time and pluck the next one. The Bishop was so good he explained to her what everything was. What it does. What we can eat an not eat. She loved it. The backyard is so quite I love it. I can acually take a nap out side now. HEHE. No just kidding the chickens have all been out all day and they seem to be happier.

Before

After.

He cooked up good, tasted good but was a little tough because we did not wait a few days to eat him. So today for lunch we had home made WHEAT bread that I ground the flour my self and Chicken that we raised. It was nice to feel that everything that we had on the table we made and raised. What a good feeling it was to know that we could do that.

That's what I'm talking about...you can do everything! Just today I was saying that I want to start making my own bread with wheat that I have ground myself. Do you have a good recipe?

Bye Jack. That is cool you have chickens. Maybe I'll get them one day. I love the pictures of Seth, did you take them yourself?
